Badleys - Midland Valley Alliance

Badley Geoscience and Midland Valley (MVE) are pleased to announce plans to work more closely together, providing complete coverage in all aspects of structural geology for the global E&P industry.

Badleys and MVE are the two leading and longest-established companies specialising in structural geology software and services. The two companies have links at a personal level that extend back to the late 1970s and have happily coexisted for the past 20 years with the shared objective of bringing advanced structural geology tools to the industry. Both companies have been able to move forward together within a relatively narrow technical market because of the clear distinction between the specialist technology offered in each case.

Badleys’ main areas of expertise are in fault analysis, fault-seal analysis and geodynamic basin modelling. MVE’s expertise lies in kinematic modelling of fault systems, most notably as the world leaders in 2D and 3D analysis of structure development through kinematic restoration of faults and horizons. Between them the two companies also cover the range of commonly used solutions to the problem of fracture and stress prediction. Badleys’ MD Alan Roberts said “We have always recognized MVE to be the market leaders in fault-restoration techniques and have been happy to recommend their products and services to our own customers. Establishing formal cooperation between the two companies seems entirely appropriate as the technical fit is so strong”.

MVE’s MD Alan Gibbs added “In a market place where our specialist technologies can save companies large sums of money in a small amount of time, it makes sense that we should work alongside each other to the benefit of our customers and ourselves” Badleys’ flagship product is TrapTester, and MVE’s is 3DMove. There has always been a strong overlap in the client-base for both products and there has been a wish by several companies to use the two program-suites alongside each other in order to provide the complete structural-geology toolkit. This has led to the identification of workflows in which the two software suites can be brought to bear on different parts of the same technical problem.

We received the message that it would be good for both our companies to work alongside each other, while retaining our individual identities and specialist skills, and also for our software tools to provide smooth cross transfer of relevant information. Having received the message we are now acting upon it. We plan to offer our customers a wide range of collaborative ventures and would be keen to hear of any other areas in which we might work together to your benefit.
