Problems when starting TransGen

The following list includes some of the problems which may be encountered when starting TransGen.

How do I start the TransGen launcher?

TransGen is started by typing the transgen script in the ./bin subdirectory of the TransGen installation (see Starting TransGen).  This will access the TransGen Control menu, from which all the modules including the Workflow Advisor can be launched.

I cannot find TransGen (don't know where I'm located)

Diagnostics

Having typed the command line (see Starting TransGen), TransGen fails to start.  Error message:

"ERROR: don't know where I am located (Try setting TG_HOME); tg cannot continue"

Cause

The variable TG_HOME has not been set correctly.

Solution

Check that the variable TG_HOME has been set correctly.  The variable should point to the TransGen installation area (for more details, click Installing the TransGen System).   Also check that the variable has been set in the files that launch the TransGen software (click here for details):

I have opened TransGen Control menu, what do I do next?

The stages in creating and using a TransGen project are:

  • Setting a project name and directory

  • Finding the necessary data in one or several Eclipse data files

  • Creating a run file

  • Viewing the model and calculating fault properties
