INSTALLING THE TRANSGEN SYSTEM

1. Decide which user is going to own the TransGen system directory (eg, root) and login as that user.

2. Decide upon a suitable location for the TransGen software.  The location will need to have about 200 megabytes of disk space.

3. Extract the contents of the download or CD, relevant to your operating system (Solaris or Linux).

The extraction process will automatically create the TransGen home directory.

NOTE: This directory is the <TG_HOME> directory and will be referred to as such throughout these notes

4. List the contents of the <TG_HOME> directory:

The following should be displayed:

app-defaults   aux   bin   browser   docs   examples   lib   license   required (Solaris version only, containing GNU compiler package)

If any of these subdirectories are missing from your list, it is likely that something has gone wrong with the installation.  Try re-running steps 3 and 4 again.

The examples subdirectory contains two TransGen projects, TRIANGLE and SAIGUP. Use the TRIANGLE dataset with the 'Triangle.TGDATA' file to explore TransGen 3.2 in Light Project mode. Use the SAIGUP dataset with the '032_B14.TGDATA' file to use TransGen 3.2 in Heavy Project mode to explore the new modules.

The TransGen program is located in the bin sub-directory. List the contents of the bin directory:

The following should be displayed:

2phasegen   2PhaseGen.exe   2PhaseGen.sh   filegen   FileGen.exe   FileGen.sh   flexlm   lmadmin   Oops.exe   tgstarter.sh
transgen   TransGen.exe   TransGen.sh   viewgen   ViewGen.exe   ViewGen.sh   wizgen   WizGen.exe   WizGen.sh   xphoto
