TransGen 3 is built to run on SUN workstations and Linux PCs. These notes assume that the potential users of the TransGen software already exist on the relevant system and that the OpenWindows or X-Windows environment is readily available to the TransGen users. If this is not the case, a specific user should be set up by the system administrator prior to installation.
These notes are provided for installation either on the SUN 4 (sparc) family of processors, running Solaris or on the Intel x86 family of processors, running Linux.
Hardware requirements:
Ideally, TransGen requires 3D graphics hardware such as SUN Creator 3D / Elite 3D on Solaris systems. However, the software will run using lower end graphics but with a performance penalty.
Software requirements:
TransGen requires OpenGL 1.2 (or higher) and has been built to run on Solaris 9 and Red Hat 7.3. The software has been certified on Solaris 8 and 9, and Red Hat Linux 7.3 and 9.0.
A prerequisite of the Solaris version of TranGen 3 TransGen is the installation of the GNU C++ compiler package before installing TransGen. This is automatically included in the release Solaris version of TransGen 3.1 in
<TG_HOME>/required directory.
However, if the GNU compiler package is not installed where you want to install and run the Solaris version of TransGen 3, refer to the section on
Installing compiler for Solaris version of TransGen.
