Fault Properties

Small faults that compartmentalize the reservoir can have a major impact on reservoir performance. It is difficult, however, to properly capture their likely impact in reservoir simulations.

Transmissibility multipliers at cell-cell connections are used to model the change in flow rate caused by faults. Typically the number of faults that are actually used are reduced to simplify the geometry represented within the model. This approach often excludes faults that may act as significant barriers to fluid flow.
